Te Kairanga Winery
The Te Kairanga Winery project involved the design and construction of a multi-functional facility over two stages, following the complete demolition of the previous building. The new structure, thoughtfully designed to complement its rural surroundings, features a barrel hall, gin distillery, and a restaurant/tasting area.
Stage 1 focused on demolishing the existing structure and constructing a basement-level barrel hall, essential for storing wine barrels in time for the April 2021 harvest. This phase required precise coordination to meet tight timelines and ensure uninterrupted vineyard operations.
Stage 2 brought the vision to life with the addition of a ground-floor gin distillery, along with a restaurant and tasting area designed to showcase both Te Kairanga wines and Lighthouse Gin.
Working within an operational vineyard presented unique challenges, from coordinating with harvest cycles to ensuring compliance with ethanol safety systems. The team successfully navigated these complexities, including the added pressures of the COVID-19 pandemic.
