Wellington Hospital Urology & Renal Relocation
The Urology & Renal Relocation Project at Wellington Hospital was a complex undertaking to transform a former administration floor into modern clinical spaces. The project involved extensive upgrades to a 50-year-old building, including asbestos removal, 1,200m2 of floor levelling, fire system redesign, and critical services enhancements.
While the new Urology and Renal departments were constructed on Level 3, the project required work across multiple floors, including replacing HVAC systems and air handling units in Level 7 plant rooms and running ducting through four risers. Extensive upgrades on Level 2 included carefully managed work in laboratories, the mortuary, and a critical data centre.
Operating in a 24/7 hospital, the team implemented meticulous planning, clear communication with hospital stakeholders, and strict noise and dust controls.
The project was recognised at the NZ Institute of Building awards for exemption collaboration and delivery. Guided by cultural respect and stakeholder engagement, the project delivered functional, patient-focused facilities.
